Para lidar com uma variedade de tarefas especiais, a Caltrain conta com duas locomotivas versáteis EMD MP15DC que originalmente serviam o Southern Pacific.
A MP15DC é uma locomotiva polivalente baseada nas cabines traseiras das manobreiras a diesel, mas o seu chassis a torna apropriada até para as principais linhas. Fabricada pela Electro-Motive (EMD) entre 1974 e 1980, a MP15DC possui quatro eixos (B-B), 1.500 cv (1.119 kW) e é alimentada por um motor EMD de 12 cilindros da série 645 com um gerador CC. Foram construídas 351 MP15.
